I guess it's been a while since I've added something to the blog, so I'm going to make an effort to review my recent reads and show you what you should be reading RIGHT NOW! Well, when you don't have your hands full that is. My first reviews will be focusing on the Young Adult Sci-Fi "The Lucidite Series" written by the wonderful and fantastic Sarah Noffke. "Awoken", "Stunned", and "Revived" follow the story of young Roya Stark who embarks on quite the journey. Here are my reviews on each individual novel: AwokenThis is the first novel I've read by Sarah Noffke, and I'm anxiously waiting to read more! If you enjoy really getting into the mind and soul of a character, Sarah executes this flawlessly, with Roya Stark as the protagonist that takes you into the fascinating world of the "Lucidites". Being a fan of science fiction and fantasy, this novel doesn't disappoint. It's a fresh take on abilities that will have you wishing you could do what they do. The cast of characters will keep you entranced from beginning to end, with scenes of mystery, deceit, brilliant action, budding romance and great humor that may have you repeating memorable lines. Don't miss out on this epic adventure, join the ranks of the "Dream Travelers" and dive into the amazing beginning of the "Lucidites" series! Stunned"Stunned" is the exact way this book will leave you. Sarah Noffke has easily become one of the best authors that will have you hanging on every word that she writes. In this 2nd novel of the "Lucidites" series, the emotional complexities of the characters grow deeper, the mysteries surrounding the Institute continue to keep you guessing, the romance will leave you more than heart-warmed, and your adrenaline will course as the action is bigger and better than it's predecessor! If you love science fiction, this series is one you cannot, I repeat CANNOT miss! RevivedWhen I first won Sarah Noffke’s novel “Awoken” at a release party, I had no idea of the brilliant rollercoaster of words I was in store for. It’s one thing to write a character, but to write the heart and soul of a character, Sarah is truly an artist, and her novels are a masterpiece. Starting with “Awoken”, then “Stunned”, and now “Revived”, this novel has you on the edge of your seat, and in my case, fighting the urge to use the bathroom because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Every character has their moment to shine, as Sarah breathes even more and new life into her cast of Lucidites. The struggle of identifying what you truly feel in your heart, the burdens of past secrets, the psychological thrill of twists and turns will fill your mind with wonder and amazement as you “dream travel” to this astounding world. Plain and simple, Sarah Noffke’s written word is like music for the eyes. It’ll make you feel things you’ve never felt before, you’ll find yourself tapping your foot to the beat of it’s pace, and you’ll even want to listen to it on repeat. Because it’s hard to say goodbye to these characters that you’ll fall in love with. Do yourself a favour. Join the Lucidite Institute. Transport yourself to this amazing, marvelous, and wonderful series by Sarah Noffke!

A few weeks ago, I did a "Tuesday Takeover" on a fellow author's site www.sarahnoffke.com. If you love YA sci-fi, then I guarantee you'll love her novels! At the time, I was working on revamping the first book in the series, and came to a part where I got stuck. Little did I realize, that the guest blog I had written was exactly what was needed for "The Ultimate Agent". This is a topic that moves me everyday, and I hope it moves you as well. What does it mean to be a hero? It’s a question that’s been asked many times.
Do you need super powers? A utility belt? The earnest want to seek justice on whoever stole the last slice of pizza? To delve deeper into the subject, you’ll find that the answer is something that can be answered with a simple question. “Have you changed someone’s life?” Whether big or small, we can all find ways to bring change to this world. They say it takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown, and something so small can have a big impact on someone’s day. Now let’s up the ante. Perhaps you come across a total stranger in need of assistance of some sort, and you have the ability to be the help they need. Would you simply walk by and say “Hey, good luck with that” or even remain silent? Sure, it’s easy enough to give a lost driver directions to where they need to go. Most likely because we know we’ll never have to see that person again because they’re from out of town. So why is it so hard to be the change that’s needed? Are we afraid to be someone’s hero? For us authors, we always hope that our written words will change and inspire. I can guarantee you that writing and describing things for a living becomes very hard to do when we receive amazing reviews and messages from you, our loyal fans. But even though we’ve written a book that may have “changed” your life, we’ll never feel like the heroes that we write about in our stories. We simply do what we do because we love doing it. We don’t have to, but we do it anyways. And isn’t that something we should all live by? Say it with me: “I don’t have to, but I have the ability to do it anyways.” You don’t have to be like Roya Stark from Sarah Noffke's sci-fi "Lucidite" series, or Wynter Reeves from the new YA dystopian “Ultraxenopia” by M.A. Phipps, or Devon Bertrand from the upcoming “Ultimate Agent” series by yours truly. The way I see it, we all have the ability to show what it means to be a true hero. You don’t have to, but will you do it anyways? Why not be someone’s hero today? Mission Blog Complete Derek R. J. Borne First of all, no the government hasn't shut down the agency, and the heroes haven't disbanded.
Purchasing the UA series is being put on hold, due to changes that needed to be made on a couple of fronts. But I can assure you, it's going to be worth the wait. Reason #1 - Due to rival spy agencies getting too close to finding out who Special Agent Brett Bourne is, both him and the Agency have agreed to changing his surname for the purpose of identity protection. From now on, "Special Agent Brett Myles Gallagher" will be looking after the Science Department of the Ultimate Agency Also, with the character's last name originally being "Bourne", it was brought to my attention the chance of being sued for using the surname because of "The Bourne Identity" series by Ludlum/Lustbader. So drastic measures were taken. Reason #2 - When I first self-published, I used a company's software that didn't allow me to publish straight to Amazon. Now with it being so much easier to do so, I'm thoroughly preparing the series to do just that. Why, you may ask? When I first wrote "The Ultimate Agent", I was a mere boy aspiring to be so much more. Over time, my writing style and maturity has grown (at least I hope on the 'maturity' part), and reading the novels over again, a revamp was definitely in order. I've been receiving amazing help and guidance from successful authors in this endeavor, for whom I am so thankful for their direction. With that in mind, if you have already purchased a copy of these novels, I do not expect you to buy the 'New Edition' of them. I appreciate all the love and support I have received, it's one of the main things that keeps me writing! So please, don't be alarmed. Stay tuned for when UA will return, bigger and better than ever! Then you should probably be watching MasterTainment or MT on the Youtubes. Stop reading this, and go watch him, like now. Go already! Click HERE for his Youtube channel. BUT... before you do, here's his video posted today (October 8th 2015) where after dishing all the new and cool news on comic book movies and everything else us nerds love, he makes a certain shout-out to yours truly! Thank you again MT! Other than writing, singing is another one of my passions. While away in Italy, there was music one night at the hotel. I asked the hotel manager if it was possible to sing a couple songs, and he excitedly said "YES Of COURSE!" Found out that the guy on piano was supposed to have a partner with him who did the singing. So he was happy to take a break from doing it all. Here's a little snippet. Video courtesy of my dad |
